WHAT IS THE HISTORY?Brachytherapy for the treatment of cancerous tumors actually dates back to the early 1900s. The techniques, however, were primitive by today's standards. In the mid-1960s, the electronic age introduced the first computerized 2-dimensional radiation dose distribution. Today, with the advent of advanced diagnostic machines such as MRI and CT scans and faster computer capabilities, we are able to produce a 3-dimensional radiation dose distribution prior to ever having the patient on treatment.HOW DOES THE PATIENT BENEFITOur multi-disciplinary implant techniques result in the highest possible local control with maximal organ preservation and the lowest possible adverse side effects. |
